Master Sergeant Tyson Goolsby

Battalion Sergeant Major


Master Sergeant Tyson L. Goolsby is the Senior Military Science Instructor for Georgia Southern University, who is also the Army ROTC Eagle Battalion Sergeant Major since July 9, 2009.

Master Sergeant Goolsby enlisted in the Army under the Delayed Entry Program in 1987 and attended One Station Unit Training (OSUT) on September 1, 1987 at Fort Sill, Oklahoma as a Cannoneer Crewmember. Since then, he has served in every leadership position from Howitzer Gunner, to Firing Battery First Sergeant, to Battalion Sergeant Major.

Master Sergeant Goolsby’s assignments include: Advance Party, M110A2 Driver, Number One Man, and Assistant Gunner in the 2nd Battalion, 92nd Field Artillery, Giessen, Germany; M110A2 Gunner in the 1st Battalion, 14th Field Artillery, Fort Stewart, GA; MLRS Ammunition Specialist, MLRS Gunner, MLRS Launcher Chief in the 13th Field Artillery, Fort Stewart, GA; MLRS Gunner and Launcher Chief in the 2nd Battalion, 14th Field Artillery, Bamberg, Germany; MLRS Launcher Chief in the 1st Battalion, 12th Field Artillery, Fort Sill, OK; Drill Sergeant in the Field Artillery Training Center, Fort Sill, OK; Senior Drill Sergeant of the Fitness Training Battery, Fort Sill, OK; Senior Intel Analyst, 2nd Battalion, 20th Field Artillery, Fort Hood, TX; MLRS Platoon Sergeant, 2nd Battalion, 20th Field Artillery, Fort Hood, TX; Senior Observer Controller /Trainer, Fort Knox, KY; First Sergeant, Alpha Battery, 1st Battalion, 76th Field Artillery, Fort Stewart, GA; Senior Military Instructor, Georgia Southern University ROTC, Statesboro, GA; Eagle Battalion Sergeant Major, Georgia Southern University, Army ROTC, Statesboro, GA.

Master Sergeant Goolsby has served in Operation Desert Shield, Saudi Arabia, 1990; Operation Desert Storm, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, 1991; and Operation Iraqi Freedom 07-09, Baghdad, Iraq, 2007-2008.

Master Sergeant Goolsby has attended numerous military schools and training programs to include: the Nuclear Biological Chemical School; Drill Sergeant School; Master Fitness School; Warrior Leaders Course; Basic Non-Commissioned Officer’s Course; Advanced Non-Commissioned Officers Course; and the Observer Controller /Trainer Course. Master Sergeant Goolsby holds an Associates Degree in Applied Technology from Central Texas College.

His awards and decorations include: the Bronze Star Medal; the Meritorious Service Medal, 5 Oak Leaf Clusters; Army Commendation Medal, 4 Oak Leaf Clusters; the Army Achievement Medal, 6 Oak Leaf Clusters; the Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Southwest Asia Service Medal; Iraqi Campaign Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon; Army Service Ribbon; Saudi Arabia Liberation Medal; Kuwait Liberation Medal; the Drill Sergeant Badge; the German Marksmanship Award, Silver; and the Order of Saint Barbara.

Master Sergeant Goolsby is married to Lakeshesia M. Goolsby and they have three daughters; Tya C. Goolsby, 6 years old; Tyla K. Goolsby, 2 years old; and Tyra K. Goolsby, 2 years old. Tyla and Tyra are twins.
