LTC Herman Haggray, Jr. is a native of Ellabell, Georgia. He received his Regular Army Commission in the Medical Service Corps from Georgia Southern University in 1990 through the Reserve Officer Training Corps. LTC Haggray was a Distinguished Military Graduate and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Georgia Southern University and a Masters Degree from the Webster University Graduate Program in Computer Resources and Information Management.

LTC Haggray enlisted in the Army as a Canoneer (13B MOS) in 1983 and attended the Canoneer’s Basic and Advanced Individual Training (AIT) courses at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. During his six years of enlistment, he gained a vast amount of knowledge by serving in various key positions to include Gunner, Assistant Gunner, and NBC NCO for C/130 Battery with 24th Infantry Division in Savannah, Georgia.

LTC Haggray has served in a wide variety of both field and fixed medical units. After the AMEDD Officer Basic Course, he was assigned to 3rd Infantry Division in Germany where he served as Medical Platoon Leader, 2/15 Infantry Battalion and then was assigned to the Heidelberg Medical Department Activity (HMEDDAC) where he served as Executive Officer, Clinic Command. After the AMEDD Officer Advanced Course, LTC Haggray was assigned to Center Brigade at Fort Sam Houston, TX where he served as the Commander, C Company, 232d Medical Battalion. He was then assigned to the MEDCOM where he served as the CENTCOM Plans Officer and deployed to El Salvador as part of Joint Task Force Aguilar ISO Hurricane Mitch. Following his MEDCOM assignment, LTC Haggray was assigned to 2d Infantry Division in Korea where he served as S3, 302D Forward Support Battalion. He returned to the Center Brigade at Fort Sam Houston, TX where he served as an Instructor in the Officer Advanced Course, B Company, Academy Battalion. Upon graduation from resident Army Command and General Staff College, he was assigned to 4th Infantry Division at Fort Hood, TX where he served as the Deputy, Division Surgeon and deployed as part of Task Force Ironhorse ISO Operation Iraqi Freedom I. Leaving Fort Hood in July 2005, he was assigned to the 32d Medical Brigade in a series of positions: Combat Developer, A Company, 2/64th Medical Battalion; Executive Officer, 187th Medical Battalion; and Special Assistant to the Chief, Medical Service Corps. He presently serves as the Executive Officer to the Chief, Medical Service Corps since June 2008.

His military education includes the AMEDD Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, the Army Airborne Course, Combined Arms and Services Staff School, the Support Operations Logistics Management Course, the Battalion Motor Officers Course, Command and General Staff College, and the Joint Planners Course.

LTC Haggray's awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal with four oak leaf clusters, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster, the Army Achievement Medal with three oak leaf clusters, the Southwest Asia Service Medal, Overseas Ribbon, the Expert Field Medical Badge and the Parachutist Badge. He was the recipient of the George Douglas MacArthur Leadership Award in 1997.

LTC Haggray resides in San Antonio with his wife of 20 years, Laverne S. Haggray. They have a son, Desmond (23) and daughter, Deandra (19). Desmond is currently serving in the US Army as a Specialist at Fort Bragg, NC and Deandra is a sophomore attending University of Texas San Antonio.
