COUR Activities

Applications for Fall 2008 Travel Grants for Undergraduate Researchers presenting at a professional meeting or competition are being accepted. Deadline is September 22, 2008. Funding will cover for meetings attended between Octbober 15, 2008 and May 15, 2009. There will be a second competition in Spring 2009.

TheThird Annual COUR Research Symposium was held on April 9, 2008. The students gave great talks along with four posters. Over 50 people attended the symposium. It was a great success! Thank you speakers and mentors! Thanks to catering services for the delicious snacks and a scrumptious vegetarian dinner.

The 2008-09 COUR Research Scholarships have been awarded and a list of the recipients is provided. COUR looks forward to another year of superb research by our Research Award recipients.

 

COUR Announcements

Dr. David Rostal, Professor of Biology, will be the new COUR Director starting in the summer 2008.  Dr. Rostal brings a wealth of experience in research with undergraduate and graduate students as well as a variety of administrative skills.  Please welcome Dr. Rostal as the new Director of COUR!

Past COUR Recipient Katalin Patonai recently won first place in her division at the International Life Sciences Students’ Conference hosted by the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia.  Full Article


Welcome to the College Office of Undergraduate Research in the College of Science & Technology at Georgia Southern University. The students and faculty of COST are leaders in undergraduate-faculty research at Georgia Southern. Through COUR this successful collaboration will be supported and developed further via competitive Paulson Student Research Awards and an annual Research Symposium. COUR will continue to seek ways for expanding undergraduate-faculty research in the College of Science & Technology at Georgia Southern University.

  • Support and enhance existing faculty-undergraduate research
  • Facilitate the creation and support of new faculty-undergraduate research initiatives
  • Showcase faculty-undergraduate research

Structure of COUR:
COUR is a new initiative in the College of Science & Technology at Georgia Southern University. The Director of COUR, Bruce A. Schulte, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology. The Director has responsibility for overseeing the mission objectives, facilitating specific responsibilities to achieve these objectives, and managing the COUR budget. The Director reports to the Office of the Dean of COST, comprised of Dean Bret S. Danilowicz, Associate Dean Shahnam Navaee, and Acting Associate Dean Clayton Heller.

Undergraduate Research Awards

The application process is explained in the Application Form. The submission date for applications is in the spring semester of each year. The 2008-2009 research awards have been distributed (see list of recipients). The funding period will begin on May 19, 2008 and end at the end of the academic year in May 2009. Applications for the next round of awards (2009-2010) will be due in the spring semester 2009.
