Interning with Chatham County Public Works and Park Services is a really demanding position. I spend most of my time in the field collecting data and loading onto one of our All-Terrain Military Grade Laptops to check the accuracy of all of our data. I have had the opportunity to fly so that I could take Aerial oblique and Ortho-photos for mapping and planning purposes. I have a GPS camera to take photos with (and load into ArcMAP for a better picture of what is going on where. Sounds pretty rough huh!? (And this is just a small portion of what I spend my time doing!)

The opportunity to experience this internship has really changed my life. I now have a full time position doing what I love to do!

My experience as a GIS intern in Effingham County, GA has been the single best experience in my college career.  I have participated in and completed several projects throughout my time in Effingham County, all of which have help me build a strong foundation in the GIS field.  A couple projects I have worked on are adding new roads into the county road database, building a new countywide fire hydrant layer and creating a water meter database for every subdivision that uses county water.  Other jobs included working with the public on a daily basis, creating and updating the county Map book and assisting the county Fire, Zoning and EMS departments.  As a current intern, I strongly encourage anyone in the GIS field to take advantage of an internship during your college career.  It teaches you valuable skills and gives you the real world experience, outside of the classroom.
