Research Award Committee Policy and Procedures Guidelines

RESEARCH AWARD

The award is to recognize achievement in advancement of knowledge in science and science teaching. The successful nominee must meet the following criteria.

  1. Length of service. A minimum of two years in a full-time tenure track position prior to the award.  Department chairs are not eligible.

  1. Provide information/documentation on each of the following categories over the current physical year and three previous (3) years.   Please note that inclusion of earlier material may result in the application being returned without evaluation.

    1. Cover Letter describing research activities.

    1. Publications (any books, monographs, reports, and reprints of publications).  Please include a copy of all publications and indicate their current status (e.g. submitted, in press) and whether they were peer-reviewed.

    1. Presentations (copy of program cover and pages listing presentation, abstracts, and/or proceedings).  Please indicate if the presentation was as an invited speaker at a conference.

    1. Grants, Projects and Contracts (award letter and summary/abstract page).  Please indicate the current status of the award (e.g. pending, awarded, completed), the extent of the role of the applicant (e.g. PI, Co-PI) and award amount (total and to GSU).

    1. Student Involvement.   Please indicate the status of each student (e.g. high-school, undergraduate, graduate) and the length of time involved with the student.

  1. Letter of support from Department Chair. Must accompany the application.

  1. Vitae.

  1. Prior award winners may not be nominated for the award for a period of five (5) years after receiving the award.


A printable version in word or pdf format is available. The research committee will be using a spread sheet during their evaluation of the applications. Please note that the rankings obtained from the spread sheet do not directly determine the outcome of the evaluation. The applications will be evaulated on all of the available material, including the cover letter and letters of support.
