"The deadline for applying for the Becton Scholarship is November 5, 2008"

For application forms, go to:

http://cost.georgiasouthern.edu/PreProfWebsite/Becton.htm

Note that if you have not registered to take the MCAT/DAT, sample practice scores that you have submitted will be sufficient to determine your eligibility.

Be sure your application is received by the Chair of the Medical and Dental Admissions Review Board by 5:00 p.m. on November 5, 2008. His office is Mathematics/Physics 2321. Or you can use campus mail and send your application to Prof. Jim Braselton, Mathematical Sciences, P.O. Box 8093.

2009 Interview Information

If you are applying to an AAMC medical school or an ADA dental school in 2009, follow these instructions to be sure that your composite letter of evaluation will be completed by the time it is due.

1. Be sure you qualify for an interview. Check your GPA. If you have not registered to take the MCAT/DAT, take the sample per previous instructions, print, and report the score to Mr. B.

2. If you do qualify for an interview, as soon as your Spring 2009 schedule is finalized, send it to Mr. B. either via campus mail or electronic mail.

3. If you have not registered to take the MCAT/DAT, the sample scores from the practice exams that you have taken will be sufficient. The Board will use the sample scores you have submitted to determine if you are eligible for an interview.

Your interview packet must be completed and distributed to the Board members by the end of the first week of Spring semester 2009. Interviews will begin the second week of Spring semester 2009. The schedule of the interviews will be formed over the break between Fall 2008 and Spring 2009 semesters. You will be notified of the time and place of your interview by the end of the first week of Spring semester, unless your interview packet is not complete.

4. Be sure that your 3-5 letters of evaluation are sent to Mr. B. and confirm that they are received by Mr. B.

5. Your Personal Statement is very important!
Most of you will write one Statement on your electronic application and then a second Statement on your secondary application. The first should be excellent. The second should be even better and demonstrate more as to why you specifically are the ideal candidate for the school to which you are applying (career exploration, interpersonal skills, self-understanding, mission). What is your passion, commitment, and working knowledge of the profession?

Make sure Mr. B. has drafts of your Personal Statement by November 17. Preferably, they should be sent as Word attachments to an e-mail. Mr. B. will try to comment on them before you submit your materials so you have a chance to revise before final submission of your interview packet.

6. Go to http://cost.georgiasouthern.edu/PreProfWebsite/board.htm for some other guidelines, if needed.

Let Mr. B. know if you have any other questions.

7. If you need help delivering your packets to the Board members, you can deliver all 5 copies to Mr. B. and he will make sure they are distributed to the Board members as long as you have your packet to Mr. B. by the end of the first week of Spring semester 2009.

Take your practice MCAT so we have a baseline score now and report your score to Mr. Braselton. Remember: We will be completing this exercise at the end of every semester. To succeed, you must have high grades and high MCAT/DAT scores. You should be thinking of how content is tested in an MCAT/DAT situation.
